Cephalopod
Brain weight flops head
sinks with each swoop net step.
No step: a parade
sand and locals part the ways
mythical fingers unfurl
dense multiplex intelligence.
Never destined as crisp lemon
plate-fellow to
limp lettuce leaves
and simple halved tomato.
That's rose-tinted BBC
large unchallenged camera
octopus. When we met
at your dark coral hideout
kaleidoscopic electric fear
my giant-eyed mirror
legs flow violet poetry.
You not appeased
’til I collect myself
fumble flipper retreat.
Low-resource spear-fisher
hitches back the fast way
impaled jelly quarry lands
brain speared
the deck now your garden.
Technicolour worry
now white in the day
revealed to my salt face
bitter traces of
yesterday’s calamari.
